Oakland played host to what was perhaps the most “full-bodied” tour of the year this Saturday. I wouldn’t say “heaviest” tour because there have been so many crushing shows so far in 2010, but this one certainly had all the big names: Mastodon, Baroness, Between the Buried and Me, High on Fire, Priestess, Valient Thorr, Black Cobra and Bison B.C. Phew!

Obviously the show was made even more awesome by the fact that Black Cobra and High on Fire played because they actually belonged at that show and weren’t just there because they were “from the Bay”. I heard a lot of folks say that Black Cobra and High on Fire were the highlights of the night. Although, Valient Thorr actually did a good job of warming up the “luke-warm” afternoon crowd – giving the audience an audible “C+” after we failed to properly chant along. To our defense, your chant is kind of complicated, VT. P-A-R-T-Y that is something that we something. Something, something PARTY! Something, something PARTY! If you didn’t notice – we’re not cheer-leaders, we’re a bunch of damned rockers! Anyways, despite the fail on the chant, those guys ruled. I wouldn’t mind checking them out again.

Alright, so I had to split early from the show because some family stuff came up and I missed basically half of the concert (I should’ve just gone to the Ludicra show). Luckily, there’s a really good write-up over at hardrockchick.com, complete with a description of Mastodon’s shenanigans. However, before security started splitting people’s heads for taking bootlegs, I was able to snag a clip of Black Cobra.
