Testament front man Chuck Billy spilled the beans in a recent interview when he said that his Bay Area Metal Super Group, Dublin Death Patrol, are working on a new album – complete with covers of songs from classic metal bands like Accept. In case you weren’t aware, Dublin Death Patrol (DDP) is composed of members from Testament, Exodus, Laaz Rockit and others.
There’s not too much to report on right now but, after listening to Accept, I can totally imagine Zetro pulling off a pretty good cover of Udo Dirkschneider. Accept’s most famous song is probably Balls to the Wall, but Demon’s Night is much better. Trust me, I used to have a compilation CD with Balls to the Wall on it and unless you like saying “Balls to the Wall” over and over again (or you’re German), you probably won’t like it.

As much as I love hitting the open road on a beautiful California spring Wednesday morning on a trip to Hollywood, I equally hate the drive back the next day, or at night when I’m haggard and barely functioning from the night before. There are many forces at work against one, that is, should one decide to make a road trip – the main obstacle of course, being money. Nevertheless, Megadeth, Testament and Exodus skipping the Bay Area aren’t going to prevent this metal-head from seeing one of the most legendary line-ups ever! I set sail from my abode in Berkeley in hopes that I could get my ass to Hollywood by 6pm. I almost did…

I knew this was going to be an interesting trip from the get-go when, after making a pit stop at a gas station somewhere near Gilroy, some random lady drives up and asks me for ...

59 Euros for tickets and camping. What is that – like three thousand dollars or something? I’m just assuming…

There was a good article posted on noisecreep yesterday featuring Alex Skolnick (with video) where they discuss why Glenn Drover is playing guitar on this upcoming Megatestodus tour. Long story short, he already made commitments with his other band, The Alex Skolnick Project.
Skolnick will be back in the line-up for the American Carnage, a.k.a. Megaslaytest, tour this summer/fall.
Choosing Drover to fill-in was kind of an interesting choice. It would’ve been cool to see Steve Smyth, James Murphy or Glen Alvelais in there tearing it up.
On a side-note, did you know he has a blog?

I’m sure you’ve heard of the “Rust in Peace” tour by now – but just in case you haven’t – it’s Megadeth, Testament and Exodus. Awesome, right!? Wrong. The only show in California is in Los Angeles. It seems like there’s a new story every day, in some form or another, about how awesome these concerts are going to be. Which is why it’s so frustrating when shows are cancelled, postponed, or not anywhere near where you live…even if you do reside in a gigantic metropolis.
Here’s a little illustration that may explain some of our frustration (click to “embiggen”):

For those of us that never got to experience one of the greatest metal tours in the history of the world, imagine Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Death Angel and Alice in Chains all in one tour. Quite a line-up, eh?
Guitar World recently got Dave Mustaine, Kerry King, Scott Ian, Eric Peterson, Rick Ernst and Rob Cavestany together for their February 2010 issue to talk about the legendary Clash of the Titans tour, which happened during 1990-1991. This article is absolutely a must-read. It’s as entertaining as it is informative. Kerry King calling Dave Mustaine a “pompous ass”, Tom Araya yelling “Satan Rules Your Soul” while Chuck Billy is getting stitches in the hospital, Pantera almost edging out Alice in Chains for the last spot, Kerry King talking about how even he hated Alice at the time, describing how Alice got pelted every night by the audience with everything ...

Tom Araya of Slayer has to get some back surgery done this month, consequently ending post-poning the American Carnage tour run. It just donned on me that metal is really starting to show its age. It’s only a matter of time before we start hearing about hip-replacement surgeries and the crazy “oat bran lifestyle” of aging metal musicians. A lot of dudes are in their 50’s and 60’s already. That’s right – 50’s and 60’s! I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a larger, yet-to-come decade of “post-poned” tours. I mean, you can’t blame the guys for still wanting to rock out into their golden years, but it’s just a fact of life: our heroes are getting older.

Mustaine, however, will probably retain his boyish-charm well into his 90’s.

Testament had a pretty awesome set list on their last tour – it was just about perfect if you ask me. Due to time constraints, for the upcoming American Carnage tour, they decided that instead of a traditional set, they’re going to play the entire album The Legacy. From KNAC.com:
We decide last night that instead of putting—because we only have a 40-minute set to pick–instead of playing a medley of songs, we decided we’re going to do the entire The Legacy record, start to finish, in its entirety for the show. We did it last year, over in Holland, and then we did a show in London. And that show we did The Legacy and The New Order back to back, just like on the records, song after song. It was awesome.
Of the 9 songs on Legacy, I remember them playing at least 3 or 4 of them at last ...
