Those lucky bastards at Decibel Magazine just unveiled a new video for the High on Fire song “Frost Hammer”. According to the description, I was expecting some kind of a Lord of the Rings remake. I mean, the video does feature some viking/satanic inspired imagery, but otherwise it’s pretty much like all of the other HOF videos: shirtless Pike plus band rocking out in some warehouse. Luckily, I happen to like that kind of thing.

Most of you by now have heard at least one song from High on Fire’s new album, Snakes for the Divine, from their myspace page. If you dug the title track, or their single Frost Hammer, then you’ re going to love the rest of the album. Snakes, for lack of a better word, is bad-ass.
Combining HOF’s raw and thunderous sound with some extended song writing, Snakes for the Divine really drives home the fire and the thunder. Ghost Neck could almost pass as a thrash song, the band riffs for days on songs like Fire Flood & Plague, and the track Holy Flames of the Firespitter seals the deal with vocalist Matt Pike screaming “Firespitter” over and over in epic fashion.
There are 8 tracks total, which actually is perfect in my opinion. The last several albums I’ve purchased have upwards of 10 or 11 songs (sometimes many more), and ...

Rad line-up! There are no shows currently scheduled for the Bay Area, but they’re “adding shows” along the way and I’m pretty sure that since there are two Bay Area bands, there will be a Bay Area show.

High on Fire is on a roll these days. Having just completed their epic journey with Mastodon, Dethklok and Converge, they’re hitting the road in Australia to support Lamb of God throughout December. On top of all the touring, they’re releasing a new album next month. From the band’s website:
HIGH ON FIRE’s long-awaited, fifth studio album and follow-up to 2007’s Death is This Communion is currently nearing completion. The award-winning band worked with producer Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slayer, Johnny Cash) at Los Angeles’ The Pass Studios with the goal of capturing “the ultimate High on Fire experience.” Images of HIGH ON FIRE hard at work on the album (brought to life by photographer Andrew Stuart) can be viewed here, here, and here.
The album is slated for a January 23, 2010 release via E1 Music.

I captured a couple of quick videos from the concert this weekend. Overall, it was a pretty awesome show. I was way impressed with Mastodon and Dethklok were obviously just out of control. High on Fire were awesome – and friggin’ loud! Converge, I’m sorry to say, didn’t really fit in. They had tons of energy, but it got kind of lost because their vocalist just made the same parrot-squawking noise the whole damned time. You’ll see the fans boo them off the stage at the end of their set. Ouch baby!
See the videos after the jump.
