Props to All Shall Perish and Decrepit Birth for getting on this tour. I mean – Look at that line-up! I’m not sure why some folks have complained about the bands on this bill – most of these bands are friggin’ amazing! I mean, they’re mostly all super technical death metal with some deathcore thrown-in, but what do you expect from a tour called Summer Slaughter?
If my memory serves me correctly, last year this tour came through the Grand Ballroom in San Francisco. I didn’t go, but I can confidently say that paying Ticketmaster, having all your shit taken away at the door and paying too much for booze puts you in the right mood to kick some serious ass in the pit.
In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted on when the tour dates come out.

It seems to be occurring with greater frequency that there are multiple shows on the same night, forcing folks to choose between which bands they want to see. Luckily, there’s a thing called video. Metal4Metal.com took some video of the Periphery/Animals as Leaders show on Monday night and posted it to YouTube, which I have graciously re-posted here. I will definitely have to see these guys on their next passage through – unless, of course, Exodus is in town again that night…
Check out the videos after the jump!

What do Job for a Cowboy, Animals as Leaders and the band in this video have in common?

More than you think…

Sons of Aurelius, the Santa Cruz death metal band in the video, features guitar player Chase Fraser.
Fraser, formerly of Animosity (disbanded as of 2009), had a drummer named Navene.
Navene hooked up with Job for a Cowboy vocalist Jonny Davy to form a side-project called Fleshrot.
Upon the disbanding of Animosity, Navene joined the line-up in Animals as Leaders as their full-time drummer.
Fleshrot, in the meantime, appears to be on hold.

I’m guessing that Kevin Bacon falls into the mix somewhere, but I haven’t found the connection yet.

Why haven’t I heard of these guys sooner?
I usually make a habit of listening to all of the bands that roll through the Bay Area. In the previous post you’ll notice that Animals is Leaders are coming through town on a Sumerian Records sponsored tour. Sumerian Records sign a lot of technical death metal bands, like The Faceless, so I didn’t really give all of the bands on this tour much of a listen because, well, they all sound kind of similar. Good, but similar. Animals though, they seem to be a whole ‘nother deal. They’re like Cynic on steroids, with a touch of Meshuggah, no vocals and a bitchin’ Jazz vibe.
The Washington D.C. based band released their self-titled album last year on Prosthetic Records, and you can hear some of it on their myspace page. These guys are friggin’ good.
