Warbringer Thrashes Berkeley
Thrash metal is alive kicking ass right now, especially in the Bay. 924 Gilman hosted Warbringer and a shit-ton of other thrash metal acts from all over to rock the ears off of all the kids that could fit in the graffity-laden rafters and sticker-covered halls. Seeing this when you walk in makes you realize you’re in for a good time:
If you haven’t heard Warbringer yet, well, let’s just say they are the Real Thrash Deal (I missed most of the opening bands, so it’d be cool to hear from other people that were there).
There’s not really a bad seat in the house. (Look at the graffiti in the rafters. So METAL! \m/ \m/ )
Vocalist John Kevill’s stage presence was superb. The dual guitars and bass thrashed about in true head-banger fashion. Drummer Nic Ritter pummeled the crowd with vicious blast and thrash beats. Despite the smallness of the venue, the volunteer staff did a great job with the sound. I bet the neighbors were pissed.
Look at all these thrashers.
The guys in Warbringer stuck around after their set to converse with the fans. These guys were way cool, to say the least. I chatted up Kevill for a minute about their set and the tour. Kevill was stoked, for lack of a better word, describing their next stop in Ventura and then going on to say that this was their best Gilman show to date.
Me and Kevill’s signature metal “claw”.
