I was going to say something sarcastic about how old Y&T are, or about how awful the cover of their new album Facemelter is, or about how basically no one under 35 has ever heard of them, but after listening to Mean Streak for the second time today, I’ve come to realize that they’re actually still relevant. For you kids out there, you can think of Y&T as basically like an older version of White Wizzard, and we have all seen how popular WW have become over the past few years with their Y&T-inspired sound.
I didn’t really grow up with Y&T (I missed that generation by a few years), but I did have some random Metal Blade Anniversary CD with a live Y&T performance on it. That’s about as far as my Y&T experience goes. Now, I know that there’s some of you out there that love you some Y&T. I mean, they’ve released what seems to be about 300 albums to date, so some folks out there are scooping up their stuff. Personally, they’ve grown on me a bit more since those old Metal Blade days, but I’m not sure if you’ll find me at any of their shows. Granted they are playing with Don Dokken at The Fillmore next month.
Facemelter comes out in May, which I’m sure will no doubt go down as the best butt classic rock CD of 2010,that is, if you don’t count RATT’s latest album.
