Tour From Afar Gets Some Names From Afar

If you want people to horribly butcher your band name, call yourself MICTLANTECUHTLI.

HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE THE NAME AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN??

Here goes, meekt-lawn-teh-kwoot-ly

Mictlantecuhtli. Try it after a few beers, haha. Thank you all for your support.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Mictlantecuhtli is the manifestation of the creator in death.  It is the essence of mortality.  Mictlantecuhtli is the equilibrium in life.  To put it plainly, Mictlantecuhtli is death.

Let’s just call them “Mick“. The aforementioned band is picking up a few tour dates in Southern California in support of Ensiferum and Hypocrisy. The Black Metal “Aztec Metal Warriors” have a pretty cool schtick, I mean – there are lots of Viking and Pirate bands, but not much in the way of Aztecs. Plus, I imagine that calling your band “Mexican Metal” doesn’t quite conjure up the desired feelings.

Here’s a video of their song “One Last Battle“. Consider it your cultural studies for the day.

Dan Spiteri is the owner and main shenanigan distributor of Bay Area Metal Scene. When he's not blasting his hearing into oblivion, you can find him doing "outdoorsy" stuff like skiing, bike riding and drinking cheap beer.

No Hypocrisy really really bums me out, but I’ll never turn down a Lazurus AD show.
