Soundgarden Is Back!? Relax, It’s the Nineties.
Remember that expression? “Relax, it’s the nineties.” It seemed to sum-up the general well-being in America and the world at the time. Nothing was off-limits, anyone could be or have anything. The nineties. Holy shit, that sounded like the future back then.
People were more accepting then, I think. Somehow we took a step back in the 2000’s. You never hear anyone say, “Relax, it’s 2010!” Or, “You can be anything!” Or, “I don’t care if two chicks want to get married!” Oh well. At least we have a black President.
Speaking of the 90’s – Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, STP – is it time to dust-off my flannel again? If Blind Melon come back I’m going to crap my pants.

You’ve probably heard by now that Soundgarden are back together.
Soundgarden were one of those bands I enjoyed. They were heavy-ish, not as heavy as Alice in Chains, but they had some thump to their beats. Chris Cornell was a beast on the mic, with that recognizable grittiness, but Eddie Vedder was more captivating. After Soundgarden, Cornell was decent in Audioslave, but his solo stuff sucked and his rap re-mix with Timbaland was just fucking weird.
Overall, Chris Cornell’s voice is pretty incredible, but it comes off a little strained in this video. It’s not the first time I’ve seen Cornell strain on the higher stuff, he seems to do that from time to time. In any regard, he’s still a badass on the mic. He pretty much peeled the paint off of walls when Badmotorfinger came out. I guess we’ll have to wait a bit and see if Soundgarden 2.0 will have the same fortitude.
Here’s footage of Soundgarden’s performance in Seattle the other night. I never had the album Ultramega OK, so this was actually my first time listening to this song. In all truth, I don’t really need to listen to it again.

agree song’s not one of their best (they did a lot of early super-grungy stuff at the show) but to say that vocal sounds strained is a bit ridiculous. what’s interesting about it is how effortless he makes it look and sound.
