The Best Band You Probably Haven’t Heard Of: Martriden
There’s more than just snow and blue sky up in Montana, at least these days. Along with a shit-load of dinosaur fossils, Death/Black Metal band Martriden is arguably the best thing to come out of the big-sky state. Their style is a mixture of Black, Death and Melodic metal that combines to give their music a heavy quality that is still able to maintain anthemic melodies and epic guitar riffs. In case you can’t tell, I like these guys.

From what I could gather, the band has put out two albums. The most recent being a full-length album called The Unsettling Dark and also the album that’s had about 3,000 plays in my mp3 player. It sounds as though the band has had to go through some change-up with their record label, but they’re working on another album called Encounter the Monolith, which will no doubt be just as awesome. From their myspace blog:
Martriden is now independent! We are no longer affiliated with SOAR or Candlelight and are proud to announce that tracking of our new CD, ‘Encounter the Monolith’ is complete. Dave Otero of Flatline Audio is currently mixing/mastering. We are quite pleased with our progress and feel this is our best work to date. We have extremely high personal standards and know you all will be pleased as well.

Go check these guys out, seriously.
